A New Logo
In conjunction with its 75th anniversary in December 2022, and the launch of its new website in January 2023, the Foundation has adopted a redesigned Richard King Mellon Foundation logo:
The Foundation’s new logo was designed to honor the Foundation’s 75-year history, while also reflecting its contemporary philanthropic leadership. The new logo repurposes elements of the former Mellon Bank logo. Mellon Bank was founded by Richard King Mellon’s grandfather, Judge Thomas Mellon, and Richard King Mellon was its longtime chair. The Foundation’s first Board meeting in 1947 was held in Mellon Bank’s offices.
The new Foundation logo utilizes the green rectangles of the former bank’s logo and rotates and repeats them to form a circle.
The new logo at times also will be accompanied by a new tagline: “Visionaries Wanted.” It is a two-word distillation of the Foundation’s ethos: To find, fund and support visionaries – women and men with great ideas for the betterment of our local communities, and for the preservation of our nation’s most precious lands and habitats.
“Vision has been at the center of the Foundation’s work for 75 years,” said Foundation Director Sam Reiman. “From our founder’s vision in leading Pittsburgh’s Renaissance, to the visionary work of our grantees ever since – we constantly are seeking out people with bold ideas to advance our plan and improve our communities. And this tagline captures that ethos in two simple words.”
